Helping Your Child Avoid a Dental Emergency
No parent wants their child to experience a dental emergency, but sometimes dental issues occur, even when you do everything “right.”
There are some steps you can take to give your child a better chance of avoiding an emergency dental visit, such as:
- Making regular preventive visits — We recommend a routine dental exam and cleaning every six months to remove stubborn plaque and tartar, as well as assess your child’s oral health. These regular visits make it possible to diagnose issues early before they worsen.
- Encouraging good dental hygiene habits — Making sure your child takes the time to thoroughly brush and floss every day is another great way to help them keep their teeth and gums as healthy as possible. For younger children, playing music or making it a game can help.
- Asking about mouthguards — If your child plays sports or grinds their teeth, a custom mouthguard can protect their teeth during games or at night. This simple step can reduce the chance that your child experiences a mouth injury or tooth damage.
